About the Doctor

Dr Jessica Xiong is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Medical Retina Specialist dedicated to providing expert care for patients with retinal and macular diseases. She manages a wide range of conditions including retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disorders, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, ocular trauma, secondary lenses and complex cataract-related complications.

Dr Xiong holds consultant vitreoretinal appointments at Westmead Hospital, Concord Repatriation General Hospital, and Liverpool Hospital, where she provides specialist medical and surgical retinal care. She is also a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the University of Sydney and is actively involved in the training and mentorship of ophthalmology registrars and vitreoretinal fellows.

After completing ophthalmology training through the Sydney Eye Hospital Network, Dr Xiong undertook advanced fellowship training in Medical Retina at Westmead Hospital and Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, where she served as Chief Fellow. This international training provided extensive experience in the management of complex retinal and macular disease, advanced vitreoretinal surgery, ocular trauma, and secondary intraocular lens reconstruction.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Xiong maintains a strong commitment to clinical research, innovation, and education. She is an active contributor to the international retinal community, regularly presenting at major national and international ophthalmology meetings and publishing research in peer-reviewed journals. Her work focuses on advancing the management of retinal disease through surgical innovation, clinical outcomes research, and the translation of emerging evidence into patient care. She has collaborated on multicentre research projects across Australia and North America and remains actively involved in research exploring retinal detachment surgery, diabetic retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration, and complex vitreoretinal surgical techniques. She also serves as a reviewer for leading ophthalmic journals and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists through teaching, surgical supervision, and professional education.
