Prepare for your appointment

To ensure a smooth and efficient experience, please bring the following items with you:

Your referral letter (valid for 12 months from GPs or optometrists; 3 months from medical specialists)
Any glasses you currently use—for reading or distance
A list of your current medications
Medicare card, DVA card, pension card, or private health insurance information if treatment is planned
Copies of relevant reports or imaging (e.g., X-rays, CT, MRI)

Also, continue using your regular eye drops on the day of your appointment unless advised otherwise.

Understanding your appointment

Appointments typically last about 20 minutes, though this may extend depending on your eye condition and the required tests.

Dilation drops may be used

We might use eye drops to dilate your pupils. These make you sensitive to light and blur your vision temporarily – bring sunglasses and consider alternative transport, as driving immediately afterward isn't safe. Effects typically wear off within 2 to 4 hours.
